There’s nothing quite like the last bit of a summer morning on the trails — especially when it’s shared with a powerhouse group of women all eager to ride, learn, and connect.
That’s exactly what went down at our first Dirt Addict Women’s Open Day Ride, held at Bloemendal Trail Park. Designed specifically for women over 30 living in Cape Town who are either new to mountain biking or getting more into it, the day was all about getting to know the local coaches and finding a tribe of trail-loving women at a similar level of fitness and skill.
A Warm Welcome & Trail Time
Over 40 incredible women showed up, ready to roll. Some were completely new to the sport, others hadn’t ridden in a while, and some were looking to push their skills further — but all were keen to meet other women and feel more confident on their bikes.
We kicked things off with introductions from the amazing lineup of coaches, all offering mountain biking training across Cape Town:
- Trail Angels
- Granny Gear Cycling Academy
- Veloworld Coaching
- Rubber Side Down MTB Skills
- Coach Eugene Elliott
- BreakAway Rides
The coaches led a ride group out onto the Bloemendal trails for an hour, giving riders a feel for different coaching styles while also matching them with others at a similar pace and experience level.
Community & Prizes to Wrap It Up
After the rides, it was all smiles and chatter as women mingled, asked questions, and shared stories from the trails over coffee. To round off the day, coaches donated lucky draw prizes — a fun surprise to wrap up a morning that was already full of wins.
Why We Hosted This
At Dirt Addict, we know that taking the first few steps (or pedals) into mountain biking can feel intimidating — especially if you’re not sure where to start, who to ride with, or which coach is the right fit. This open day was our way of creating a space where women could show up, test the waters, and find the support they need to keep going.
And based on the energy, laughter, and new connections made — we know this is just the beginning.
