It was a big push for me to show up at the start of the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

I’d been battling with a cold for 2 weeks and my training had taken a knock. I had to keep reminding myself that personal growth happens when I take on challenges that have a 50/50 chance of success.

Setting off, the spectator gees were amazing, and the views were spectacular. But I was bumped off my bike early on by an eager rider who tried to squeeze between myself and another slowpoke.

Thank goodness for the amazing tech support who straightened my handlebars, but halfway I had to pull out.
I missed the carefree, fun vibe of the short course of last year. They were all about the laughter and “lekkerness”, but I’ll be back for another attempt, next year.
