Knowing nothing about bicycles in 2013, I did my first Cape Town Cycle Tour in Crocs and on an un-serviced bicycle.
Yep, no lube on the chain. As you can expect, I had mechanicals. 11 years on, I crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 30 minutes.
How has this experience changed from my first time?
I had set goals and completed back-to-back seeding events like Winelands Cycle Tour, Gryphon 99er, Tour de Worcester, and Tour de PPA – all in the space of four weeks.
Because of joining Dirt Addict, I started making more informed decisions and worked on my fitness.
That doesn’t mean it was easy. On the day I was challenged by the head wind all along the seaside. But I loved it. I loved being challenged and enjoyed taking in my surroundings.
With more confidence, I’ve started to join the back of bigger groups. This is only the beginning of bigger goals. Let’s see where this takes me.
