At Dirt Addict, we love seeing our members push their limits, and Lesley van Zyl, one of our dedicated 51-year-old members, recently did just that. She decided to take on the Titan Obstacle Course Race for the first time, and her journey was nothing short of inspiring.
Lesley admitted to feeling a bit nervous as race day approached. With only minimal information about the challenges she would face, the uncertainty weighed on her mind. She wasn’t sure what to expect or if she could handle the obstacles ahead. But true to the Dirt Addict spirit, she was ready to give it her best shot.
The weather didn’t make things any easier—rain poured down, turning the course into a wet and muddy battleground. But Lesley and the other participants weren’t deterred. Despite the challenging conditions, there was an undeniable sense of excitement in the air.
Most of the competitors were in the same boat as Lesley, tackling the course for the first time with a mix of nerves and anticipation. But one thing was clear: the camaraderie was strong. At every challenge, there was someone ready to offer a helping hand or words of encouragement, embodying the supportive community we’re so proud of at Dirt Addict.
Lesley tackled the course with determination, managing to successfully complete 75% of the challenges. Whether it was crawling through thick mud, wading waist-deep in icy water, or hefting heavy tires, she faced every obstacle head-on. The race wasn’t just about physical endurance for her—it was also about breaking through mental barriers. She discovered that obstacle races, something she hadn’t considered before, was actually quite enjoyable!
The mud and water were tough, no doubt about it. There were moments when Lesley had to dig deep, pushing herself to keep going. But she did it, and the sense of pride and accomplishment she felt at the finish line was well-earned.
At Dirt Addict, we believe in embracing challenges and pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones. Lesley’s journey through the Titan Obstacle Course is a perfect example of that mindset.
She showed us that age is just a number, and with determination and the support of a strong community, we can achieve more than we ever thought possible.
We’re incredibly proud of Lesley and can’t wait to see what new challenges she’ll take on next. If her experience taught us anything, it’s that the toughest battles often lead to the most rewarding victories.
